The problems that trigger the call
A hose bib that sprays from the handle every time you water the garden. A wet ring on the basement ceiling below an outdoor faucet, which usually means the pipe froze and split over the winter and waited until spring to show you. A yard that turns into a pond after every rain. Standing water against the foundation. A downspout that dumps right at the house. Or you want something new out there: a spigot on the far side of the garage, a gas line for the grill, water for an outdoor kitchen.
None of these scream 2 a.m. on their own. But water pooling against your foundation works its way into the basement, and a split hose bib pipe can quietly soak a wall cavity for weeks. If water is actively running where it should not, or you smell gas outside, that becomes emergency plumbing and we answer those calls day and night.
What we do on the visit
You get an on-the-way text and a stocked truck. For faucet work, we trace the line feeding the bib, check the shutoff valve inside (and add one if your home does not have it), and pressure test for hidden splits before we close anything up. For drainage, we walk the yard with you. We look at where water collects, where the downspouts discharge, and which way the grade runs, then lay out a plan: French drain, catch basin, buried downspout line, sump discharge extension, or some combination.
Either way, you see the full price in writing before work starts. Our pricing page explains exactly how that works.
Hose faucets, done right
We have installed hundreds of outdoor faucets, and there is more to it than screwing a spigot into a wall. A frost-free hose bib has to slope downward through the wall so the water drains out before a freeze. Get the pitch wrong and freeze-proof is just a word on the box. We install anti-siphon, frost-free models as the default, because the anti-siphon device keeps hose water from being pulled back into your drinking water.
Want a faucet where you have never had one? A hot and cold model for washing the dog or the car? We run those too.
One tip that costs you nothing: disconnect your garden hose before winter. A connected hose traps water in the faucet body, and that is the most common reason a properly installed frost-free bib still bursts.
Yard drainage
If your yard stays soggy for days after rain, the water is telling you something. Northeast Ohio sits on heavy clay soil that drains slowly, and plenty of local lots were graded decades ago and have settled toward the house since. Pooling near the foundation builds hydrostatic pressure, pushes seepage through basement walls, and keeps your sump pump running around the clock.
We install French drains, catch basins, surface drains, buried downspout lines, and sump discharge extensions, sized and routed to your lot. Most drainage projects take one to two days. Bigger jobs need equipment, and we work carefully to limit lawn damage. Good surface drainage is also cheap insurance for your sump pump, because every gallon you move away from the foundation is a gallon the pump never has to lift.
Repair or replace, honestly
A faucet that leaks from the top when it runs often just needs a new anti-siphon device, not a whole new bib. A washer or cartridge fixes plenty of drips. We repair when repair makes sense. We recommend replacement when the faucet body split in a freeze, the bib is an old non-frost-free model on an exterior wall, or the repair price creeps toward the replacement price. Installations carry a minimum 1-year warranty.
What moves the price
Access is the big one. A bib on a basement rim joist with open ceiling below is a quick swap. One buried behind a finished wall is not. For drainage, it is footage, depth, soil, and what is in the way (roots, walks, utilities). For gas, it is run length and trenching. No number is final until you approve it in writing.
Why a licensed plumber and not a handyman
Outdoor plumbing is where water supply, drainage, and sometimes gas meet dirt and freezing weather. Backflow protection on outside faucets is a drinking water safety issue, not a nicety. Outdoor gas lines for grills, fire pits, and patio heaters have to be sized, buried, and tested to code, and that is licensed gas line work, full stop. The Akron freeze-thaw cycle punishes anything pitched wrong or buried too shallow. And a lot of the housing stock around here went up in the 1950s through the 70s, which means aging galvanized lines, missing interior shutoffs, and grading that has had half a century to settle. We see all of it every week, and we have since 2009.

Outdoor Plumbing: common questions
How much does it cost to replace an outdoor faucet?
It depends on access. A hose bib with open ceiling below it inside is a quicker job than one buried behind a finished wall. Dispatch is $79 in our core area, $89 in Greater Akron, it rolls into the job if you approve the work, and you get the full price in writing before we touch a wrench.
Why did my frost-free faucet still freeze and burst?
Almost always one of two things. Either a garden hose was left connected over winter, which traps water in the faucet body, or the faucet was installed without a downward pitch, so water sits in the pipe instead of draining out. Both are fixable.
Do I need to winterize a frost-free hose bib?
Not usually, as long as it was installed properly. Just disconnect the hose before freezing weather. Standard faucets are different: shut off the inside valve and drain the line before the first hard freeze.
How long does a yard drainage project take?
Most installs take one to two days, depending on footage and soil conditions. Larger jobs may need equipment, and we work to keep disruption to your lawn and landscaping to a minimum.
Can yard drainage fix my wet basement?
Often, yes. Moving surface water away from the foundation reduces the hydrostatic pressure that pushes moisture through basement walls. It also takes load off your sump pump. We will tell you straight if your problem needs more than drainage.
