Drain Cleaning in Wadsworth & Greater Akron, OH

A slow sink is annoying. A sewer backup is a flooded basement. We clear both, and we put a camera in the line to find out why it happened so it stops happening.

What this covers

  • Video camera inspection of drain and sewer lines
  • Kitchen sink and garbage disposal clogs
  • Bathroom sink, tub, and shower drains
  • Toilet clogs and auger work
  • Laundry and utility drain clogs
  • Mainline sewer cleaning
  • Recurring-clog diagnosis
  • Line locating to pinpoint breaks under floors or yards

Drain cleaning clears a slow or backed-up line, and a camera inspection finds why it happened so it stops coming back. Mackin & Sons has run more than 17,000 jobs since 2009, family-owned in Wadsworth with 4.9 stars across 600+ Google reviews.

The signs that trigger the call

One slow fixture is a clog. Several at once is a main line problem, and those get worse on their own schedule, never yours.

Call us when you notice water creeping up around your feet in the shower, a kitchen sink that gurgles and drains in stages, a toilet that needs two flushes and a prayer, or sewage smell from a floor drain. The big tell is cross-talk between fixtures: the tub fills with gray water when the washing machine drains, or a toilet bubbles when the basement sink runs. That means the blockage is downstream of everything, in the main, and the next backup lands on your basement floor. If it already has, that is emergency plumbing and we answer those calls day and night.

Until we get there, stop running water into the affected drain and leave the chemical cleaners on the store shelf. They corrode pipes and rarely fix anything.

What we actually do on the visit

You get an on-the-way text, a stocked truck, and a plumber who starts by figuring out which line is blocked and why. For hair, soap, paper, and kitchen grease near the fixture, a cable machine does the job. For main lines, repeat offenders, and anything that feels off, we run a video camera through the pipe and look at the inside of it instead of guessing.

When the problem is a bad section of pipe, our locating equipment pinpoints exactly where it sits, under the slab or out in the yard, so any repair is a measured dig, not an excavation hunt.

Either way, you approve the price in writing before work starts. How we price every job is on our pricing page.

When cleaning is not the answer

Honest part: sometimes the clog is a symptom. A clay sewer lateral with roots at every joint, a bellied line that holds water, a cast iron stack rusted rough inside. We can clean those and buy you months or years, and sometimes that is the right call. But we will show you the camera footage, tell you what cleaning can and cannot fix, and price the repair option so you can decide with real information. We do not sell jetting when a cable works, and we do not cable a collapsed pipe and call it fixed.

What moves the price

Four things, mostly. Which drain it is (a bathroom sink versus a buried main). Access (an outside cleanout is fast, pulling a toilet or going through a roof vent takes longer). Severity (a soft grease clog versus a root mat). After-hours emergencies cost more than a scheduled visit. The dispatch fee is $79 in our core area and $89 across Greater Akron, and it rolls into the job when you approve the work.

Why a licensed plumber for drain work

A rented auger in untrained hands can punch a narrow hole through a clog, declare victory, and leave the line 90 percent blocked. It can also crack a fragile old trap, knot a cable inside the pipe, or chew through a pipe wall. A handyman without a camera is working blind, and without a license or insurance the damage is your problem. We are licensed and insured. Drains are a daily part of that work, from kitchen sink lines to full sewer mains.

Northeast Ohio is hard on drains

The housing stock around Wadsworth, Barberton, Norton, and Akron skews mid-century, and mid-century drains have known weak points. Clay tile sewer laterals from the 1950s through the 70s have a joint every few feet, and every joint is a door for tree roots. Cast iron stacks from the same era rust rough on the inside and snag everything that passes. Our hard water leaves scale that slowly narrows lines (a water softener helps the whole house, drains included). And the freeze-thaw cycle works our clay-heavy soil every winter, shifting and settling older lines into offsets and bellies that catch debris.

None of that means your house is doomed. It means a camera is worth more here than almost anywhere, because it tells you whether you have a one-time clog or a pipe that needs attention.

If a drain in your house is slow, gurgling, or backing up, call 330-825-3686 or book online and we will get it flowing.

What customers say about drain cleaning

Mackin and Sons helped us get through a winter of sewer damage. Christian was so helpful guiding us through restoration and preparing us as we rebuild both bathrooms. He even handled the insurance side. Thank you for everything your company supported us through.

Drain Cleaning: common questions

How much does drain cleaning cost?

It depends on which drain, where the clog sits, and how we have to reach it. A simple sink clog costs less than cabling a main sewer line. The dispatch fee is $79 in our core area, $89 in Greater Akron, it rolls into the job if you approve the work, and you see the full price in writing before we start.

Can I just use store-bought drain cleaner?

It might buy temporary relief, but those chemicals can corrode your pipes, and they sit in the line waiting for whoever opens it next. Skip them. A plunger and a P-trap cleanout are fair DIY moves. Caustic chemicals are not.

How often should I have my drains cleaned?

Most homes never need scheduled cleaning. If one drain keeps backing up, there is usually a flaw in how the line was installed or a problem inside it. Preventative cleaning every 1 to 2 years makes sense for a line like that until the real defect gets fixed.

Do you do camera inspections?

Yes. We run a camera through larger drain lines to see exactly what the inside of the pipe looks like. Our locating gear then pinpoints where the bad spot sits, whether that is under the basement floor or out in the yard. It turns guessing into a measurement.
