Old town, old pipes

Rittman grew up around the salt works and the paperboard mill. Most of the housing stock went up between the 1910s and the 1960s. Good houses. Solid framing, full basements, built by people who expected them to hold up. They have.

The plumbing is another story. Cast iron stacks. Galvanized steel supply lines. Clay sewer laterals. That was the standard back then, and a lot of it is still in the walls and still in the ground.
